I woke up this morning at 4:30am wide awake, hoping that I would get back to sleep but it was not meant to be. So I lay in bed meditating and thinking, while occasionally dozing off for a few minutes here and there. I always take notice of where my mind goes as soon as I wake up in the mornings, as most often my mind focuses on something I’ve been worrying about or something important. This morning at 4:30am, my mind began thinking about my health and wellness journey, of how far I have come, and what I am still yet to achieve.
Like everyone, I have my challenges and for me they are a result of having lived an unhealthy and stressful lifestyle for quite a number of years. So this morning, I lay there thinking about what my life was like when I drank til 3am every weekend, how I bought my lunch every day, only exercised twice a week, had two double shot lattes before lunch and felt completely confused about health. How I studied full time and worked full time at once, while having a long distance relationship and spent most weekends away. To some, this may sound like the norm and for me at the time, it was.
Looking back on this, I have so many beautiful and fun memories, but I have also realised the level of mental and physical stress my body was under from a busy lifestyle and poor food choices. I maintained a level of energy for some time but eventually my poor choices caught up on me, as they do, and I began to feel lethargic, I had excess weight, a poor functioning digestive system, irregular menstrual cycle and I felt horrible. I had never meditated in my life, I had no idea how much water I should be drinking and I didn’t pay attention to how my body felt and what it was saying. I was completely disconnected from my body, as I ate and exercised according to the body that I desired, not listening to what it truly required. I based my self-worth on the amount of friends that I had and I went from one diet to another looking for a quick-fix..
I’m sharing this story with you, as I know it’s not an unfamiliar one. I believe in being vulnerable as I value it as a strength, which is contrary to what many people believe. I hope this vulnerability allows you too to be vulnerable and honest with yourself.
I can look back on my life and honestly have no regrets as I have learnt incredible lessons from every challenge and every experience. I would not be the Women's weight, fertility & energy coach I am today without having experienced these. I would also not have the appreciation for life-giving nutrition and a balanced lifestyle that I have learnt over the years.
Laying down the core foundations of health in my life has shown me true health. When adopting and valuing the foundations of health, we set ourselves up for a long life free of pain, free of dis-ease and allow our health and happiness to thrive. I am so fortunate to witness these positive changes in my clients health and lives every day. Although I still have health goals that are yet to be achieved, I know that with time, the foundations of health that I live by, will continue to support me every step of the way and get me there. My beautiful clients prove this time and time again.
So my lifestyle has somewhat changed over the years and when reflecting on this at 4:30am, I couldn’t but feel an immense sense of gratitude towards foundational holistic health. I have such a monumental respect for being taught what the foundations of health are and how to implement them in my life and the life of clients that I coach. These core principals of health are truly what we have known for thousands and thousands of years but have been forgotten or have not been taught to many. My purpose is to help women regain control over their weight, fertility and energy by building the foundations of health to essentially thrive for life.
I will forever value every challenge in my life and cherish every lesson that I learn along the way, as without tough times, how can we possibly grow and evolve to be the best version of ourselves! I encourage you to reflect on how your tough times too support your growth.
So today I am feeling grateful. I wanted to share this with you in hope that you too spend some time reflecting on your experiences and consider how many obstacles, challenges and tough times you have survived. Not only did you survive, but you have thrived in so many ways. You must give yourself credit for pushing on despite having been knocked down time and time again. You are reading this today, with a whole big beautiful life ahead of you with so many learnings and strength. You are capable of so much more than you realise, not just on a physical level but also mental, emotional and spiritual.
Take the time each day to listen to your body, it is always talking to you and leading you in the direction you are supposed to go. Meditate, eat quality whole foods, trust in yourself and believe that your dreams are possible. If you want to take your health to the next level, do it!
